Tell Congress: No Thanks to Year-Round Thanksgiving Like Congestion
Traveling for Thanksgiving and worried that you’ll get stuck in long lines at the airport or that your flight will be delayed? For good reason - the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the busiest and most stressful travel day of the year.
The bad news – within the next 15 years, every other day will feel like the Wednesday before Thanksgiving at over half of America’s largest airports.
The good news – you can be a part of the solution by urging Congress to act to improve our nation’s airports and increase capacity to meet growing demand.
As travel demand grows, airports are running out of ways to finance vital improvements that would alleviate congestion and delays because Congress has failed to invest in aviation infrastructure. Email your legislators and urge them to make investments in aviation infrastructure a priority as they finalize the budget for 2014.
Tell Your Representative to Cosponsor the JOLT Act
The "Jobs Originated Through Launching Travel (JOLT) Act" (H.R. 1354) would reform the Visa Waiver Program to allow more countries to qualify, expand the Global Entry Program to expedite the clearance process for low-risk international travelers and develop a pilot program for premium processing of visas in exchange for a higher fee while setting specific goals for visa processing. Email your Representative and urge him/her to cosponsor the JOLT Act.
Tell Your Legislators That Travel Matters
As the 113th Congress gets underway, it is crucial that your legislators hear from you about the importance of the travel industry in their district. Whether your Member of Congress is a freshman or a seasoned veteran, take this opportunity to present the economic impact of travel in your community and offer to serve as a resource to their office. This is also the perfect opportunity to ask your Members to join the Travel and Tourism Caucus.
